9th-11th European Workshop on Mathematical & Scientific e-Contents 9-11 September 2010, Trondheim, Norway

Mark Dawes, University of Cambridge. United Kingdom

Mark gained a degree in mathematics at Oxford University, and trained to be a teacher at King's College, London. In 2009 he successfully completed a Masters degree in mathematics education, with a focus on the use of GeoGebra to develop proof.
He has taught at Comberton Village College, a secondary school near Cambridge, for 14 years. For part of this time Mark was the head of the mathematics department. His current role is 'Advanced Skills Teacher', which means he spends one day each week working with teachers from other schools, collaborating with them to develop their mathematics teaching. Mark is currently seconded for a further day each week to Cambridge University's Faculty of Education where he helps to teach the trainee maths teachers.

GeoGebra - The Mathematician's Tool

GeoGebra can be used in many different ways.

This plenary session will focus on the question "How can I use GeoGebra?" - considering it from three different perspectives:

  • How does GeoGebra work?
  • How can I use GeoGebra in the curriculum?
  • What are the different pedagogical ways that GeoGebra can be used?

The session will consider these questions from the perspective of a teacher of mathematics and will discuss effective ways of using this software.
