University of Salamanca in Auckland

In 2010 the University of Salamanca was aknowledged as International Campus of Excellence. As a result, in his attempt to help in the internationalisation of the University, the General Foundation of the University of Salamanca, opens in 2011 several branches of the University of Salamanca outside of Spain. The International Campus of the University of Salamanca is mainly focused in two fields: Spanish language and Bioscience, and expects to create future leaders in these fields.

The University of Salamanca approved in 2011 to open a new branch in Auckland, New Zealand, in order to organise educational activites related to the University of Salamanca such as Spanish language courses and specialised University courses.

The University of Salamanca in Auckland intends to promote the Spanish language and the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries in New Zealand. Its main objectives are:

• To provide opportunities for Spanish-speakers to have contact with other Spanish-speakers and to retain links with their mother countries.
• To provide an educational opportunity for persons resident in and about Auckland to develop an interest in the Spanish language and cultures and to enhance their learning and use of the Spanish language through contact with Spanish-speakers.
• To organise and hold Spanish language and culture courses.
• To organise and hold social and cultural activities such as lectures, conferences and other events concerning Spanish language and cultures.
• To promote an awareness of New Zealand in Spain and among Spanish people.
• To provide information about Spanish cultural heritage in New Zealand.
• To establish cultural, commercial and intellectual links between New Zealand and Spanish individuals, companies and institutions.
• To organise cultural and language exchanges between Spain and New Zealand.
• To celebrate national occasions of Spanish-speaking countries and to facilitate meetings with prominent Spanish-speaking individuals or groups who may be visiting New Zealand.
• To support the work of researchers of the Spanish language in New Zealand
